KALLAWAYA

Journey into Kallawaya Shaman Territory
The Kallawayas are a unique Quechua Speaking ethnic group who are highly regarded as shamans and healers since the times of the Inca Empire. They still hold a unique ritual language only they understand, and a vast store of ritual and herbal knowledge that earned them the bestowal of the Cultural Patrimony of Humanity title by UNESCO.

Their hidden Valley is located about 9 hours outside La Paz on a 4x4 vehice, going past Lake Titicaca, across the Andean Mountain Range through Ulla Ulla National Park, where one of the few remaining Vicuña reserves is found (the finest camelid, relative of the llama), and into a deep valley, where the Kallawaya Villages are spread across many diffrent ecological floors. from the highest, just below the andean glaciars, to the deepest, close to the brow of the jungle.
Here lie some amazing villages still intact after 500 years of colonization, with ancient inca terraces, and stone houses, and some very wise shamans who practice their many diffrent rituals for healing, divination, blessing and purification.
Also, many Sacred Power Places for pilgrimages can be found in this region.
The Kallawayas believe they have a very precious knowledge they have kept safely for all time, and are now willing to share some of these with visitors to help bring about positive change in our world.
